Iran Talks Boost Oil Markets as Strait of Hormuz Remains Shut
Oil prices slid on Tuesday after signs emerged that negotiations between the US and Iran were progressing.
The Strait of Hormuz, a vital conduit for oil supplies, remains largely shut due to tensions between the two nations. However, Qatar stated that a proposed de-escalation resolution had been drafted, while American Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent expressed optimism about reaching an agreement.
Brent crude dropped 2.5% below $82 per barrel as markets reacted positively to the news. Bessent emphasized that any deal would prioritize freedom of movement for maritime traffic without imposing tolls on vessels.
