Iran Tensions Send Crude Oil Prices Soaring to Fresh Highs
Crude oil prices remain steady on Hyperliquid as investors weigh in on the ongoing US-Iran standoff. The global benchmark Brent has risen to $92.90, while West Texas Intermediate (WTI) climbed to $86.50, both benchmarks have surged by over 32% from their July lows.
Iran is reportedly considering escalating tensions with the US, which could boost crude oil prices further. According to Bloomberg, Iranian officials are discussing military escalation to punish the US and its allies. This comes as Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent prepares to unveil a new sanctions package against Iran on Monday.
An escalation would be highly bullish for crude oil prices, with potential attacks on oil and gas infrastructure in the region and key US interests at risk, including subsea internet cables that pass through the Strait of Hormuz. The oil inventories in countries like the United States, China, South Korea, and Japan are already dwindling.
Despite these risks, crude oil prices have remained below their year-to-date high due to weak Chinese demand. Data also show that millions of barrels of oil are passing through the Strait of Hormuz each day.
