Iran-US Standoff Sends Oil Prices Soaring by 5% Amid Strait of Hormuz Tensions
Oil prices surged by 5% on Monday as tensions between Iran and the United States intensified over the Strait of Hormuz, a critical shipping route. The dispute centers around compensation and sanctions, with Iranian demands for relief from US sanctions contributing to market woes.
Brent crude settled at $87.72 a barrel, while U.S. crude closed at $82.13 on Monday. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi stated that no talks would occur until the US adheres to an interim agreement from June.
Geopolitical factors are further exacerbating market concerns, including Houthi strikes on Saudi oil infrastructure and Ukrainian attacks on Russian energy facilities. Market analysts and traders are forecasting tighter oil supplies due to these complex geopolitical factors.
