Iran-US Talks Stall Over Strait of Hormuz Shipping Framework

Global oil prices remain volatile as investors weigh conflicting signals from Iran and the United States over a potential agreement to restore shipping through the Strait of Hormuz.

The standoff has led to sharp price swings, with Brent crude trading below $82 a barrel on Friday and West Texas Intermediate futures opening at $78.31 a barrel on August 7.

A proposed Iranian framework for managing navigation through the strait includes penalties equal to 20% of a vessel's cargo value for violations, which has raised concerns among markets.

Oil prices are well off their April peak, with Brent crude averaging $85 a barrel in June and projected to average $74 a barrel in the third quarter by the U.S. Energy Information Administration.
