Iran Warns of Trillion-Dollar Environmental Damage from Oil Pollution

The Iranian government has sounded the alarm on severe environmental damage in the Persian Gulf and Gulf of Oman. According to Esmail Baghaei, spokesperson for the Iranian Foreign Ministry, the damage caused by oil pollution could amount to trillions of dollars.

A video shared by Baghaei shows oil pollution off the coast of Qeshm Island, which he blames on a foreign vessel. He notes that this is just one example of large-scale pollution that has degraded the waters over recent decades, causing significant damage to Iran's coastal areas.

Baghaei emphasizes that all participants in commercial shipping should bear both legal and moral responsibility for addressing the environmental damage caused in the region.
