Iran's Fuel Crisis Spirals as New Sanctions Bite
The fuel crisis in Iran has worsened due to new economic sanctions imposed by the US.
Drivers are facing hours-long waits at filling stations, with some people sleeping overnight to secure fuel for the next day.
The shortage is partly attributed to a 15 million liter (4 million gallon) daily gasoline deficit, which has been exacerbated by war damage and difficulties in importing refined products.
Vahid Ghaneifard, chief executive of Persian Gulf Star Oil Company, confirmed that the refinery had begun testing methanol as an oxygenate in its gasoline, making up around 0.5% of the mixture.
