Iran's Plan to Reopen Strait of Hormuz Rejected by Trump

A proposed plan by Iran to reopen the Strait of Hormuz has been rejected by US President Donald Trump, according to reports.

The waterway is crucial for global oil supply and has been a focal point in the conflict between the US and Iran, which has been ongoing for nearly seven months.

Iran's Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi presented a seven-day plan to reopen the strait during talks with Trump's envoy Steve Witkoff at the UN in New York this week. The plan includes a cessation of hostilities in the Middle East, including in Lebanon, and the release of $12 billion in frozen Iranian assets.

The proposal also calls for the lifting of sanctions on Iranian oil and an end to the US naval blockade of Iran. If accepted, Iran would reopen the strait after seven days.
