IRGC Navy Targets Oil Tankers in Strait of Hormuz Amid Tensions
The Iranian Islamic Revolution Guard Corps (IRGC) Navy has targeted at least seven oil tankers in the Strait of Hormuz over the past five days, according to reports.
Fars news agency, a semi-official outlet, cited MenchOsint, an independent military observer, stating that two oil tankers were hit by explosions on Friday, one at the waterway's entrance and another while exiting it.
Over the previous four days, three United Arab Emirates vessels, SINBAD, MERSIN PROSPERITY, and AL RUWAIS, and two Kuwaiti tankers, AL FUNTAS and KAZIMAH III, were also struck in the strait, according to MenchOsint.
This recent escalation comes after Iran tightened its grip on the Strait of Hormuz on February 28, barring safe passage for vessels belonging to or affiliated with Israel and the United States following their joint strikes on Iranian territory.
