Irish Grain Prices Hit Record Highs Amid Rising Costs
The week of September 30 saw a flurry of grain price announcements in Ireland. Tirlán set base prices at €210/t for green feed barley and €220/t for green feed wheat, with many growers eligible for an additional €10/t trading bonus.
Dairygold's announcement included base prices of €213/t for green feed barley and €223/t for green feed wheat, with a €5/t bonus added on for many growers. The full list of prices is available in this week's paper.
Boortmalt suppliers were also informed of their price, which comes out to €217.70/t after levies and charges are taken into account.
Farmers may be unhappy with these prices, but they reflect the current market conditions, which have seen grain prices reach record levels. However, despite these high prices, farmers still face significant challenges due to rising input costs.
The lack of premium payments for grain and the decline in demand for malting barley have also had an impact on prices, with malting barley now trading below feed barley.
