Italian Olive Oil Production Set for Strong Rebound in 2025-26
Italian olive oil production is expected to bounce back in the 2025-26 season, according to Ismea forecasts. The organization predicts a 31% increase in production, reaching 325,000 tonnes. This significant rebound comes after years of tension and a two-year slump in Spanish production.
Despite a decline in prices recorded in 2026, Italian extra virgin olive oil continues to hold a stronger position on the markets than its main competitors', said Ismea. The country's olive sector covers over one million hectares, with around 289,000 organic hectares and approximately 620,000 olive-growing holdings.
The positive news extends to foreign trade, with imports falling in the first six months of 2026 due to greater domestic availability. Exports also showed some resilience, with sales increasing to the United Kingdom and positive results recorded in Poland, the Netherlands, and Belgium.
