Jamaat Slams LPG Price Hike Amid Soaring Essential Commodity Prices
The Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami has expressed concern over the increase in liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) prices, which it says will put further financial pressure on consumers. The party's Secretary General Mia Golam Porwar condemned the government's decision to raise LPG and autogas prices, citing rising essential commodity prices.
The Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC) increased the consumer-level price of a 12-kg LPG cylinder by Tk 70 on Sunday. The new price is Tk 1,598, up from Tk 1,528. Autogas prices have also risen to Tk 73.67 per litre.
Porwar warned that the increased gas prices could affect various sectors, including production, and urged the government to import liquefied natural gas (LNG) to meet the country's demand.
