Kazakhstan targets 2.9 million tons more oil with digital twin technology
Kazakhstan is accelerating its digital transformation in the energy sector, with a focus on digital twin technology to boost oil production. Energy Minister Yerlan Akkenzhenov revealed during a government meeting that expanding a digital twin project at the Embamunaigas oil field could yield up to 2.9 million tons of additional oil output. The initiative is part of the broader Digital Qazaqstan strategy, aimed at modernizing the country’s fuel and energy sector.
KazMunayGas is already conducting a pilot project at the Embamunaigas field, where the digital twin integrates data from reservoirs, wells, and production infrastructure. This technology provides a holistic view of field operations, enhancing efficiency and decision-making. The minister also highlighted plans to apply similar digital twin solutions to Astana’s energy infrastructure, which is expected to cut fuel consumption by 2.5%.
By the end of the year, Kazakhstan intends to establish a registry of priority AI solutions, target architectures for digital twins, and a cyber-physical security architecture. These steps underscore the country’s commitment to leveraging advanced technologies for sustainable energy growth. Additionally, Kazakhstan has recently strengthened its cooperation with Mongolia in energy, agriculture, and mining sectors.
