State senators in Kentucky have expressed their support for an investigation into electric and natural gas rates by the Public Service Commission (PSC). The PSC initiated the investigation on August 26, with the aim of identifying concerns and potential measures to improve the affordability of utility service for residential ratepayers.

The Senate Majority Caucus issued a statement on August 31 in support of the measure. Senators Scott Madon, Phillip Wheeler, and Brandon Smith emphasized that affordable power is crucial for driving jobs and investment in Eastern Kentucky, where residents already face elevated energy costs.

The senators urged the PSC to examine various factors, including fuel costs, fixed charges, rate design, operating and capital expenses, and cost allocation. They also stressed the importance of public input and transparent data in addressing the issue.
