Khamenei Backs Plan to Reopen Hormuz Amid Deadlocked Iran-US Tensions

Iran's President Masoud Pezeshkian announced on Thursday that Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei has backed a plan to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, a crucial waterway for global oil supplies. The strait has been at the center of the conflict between Iran and the US, which remains deadlocked after nearly seven months.

In an interview with CBS, Pezeshkian stated that the Islamic Republic would fulfill its obligations if the United States agreed to the proposal. He emphasized that a six-member team in Iran has been meeting to discuss the plan, which includes representatives from various organizations and bodies, including the military, parliament, and government.

The proposed plan calls for the cessation of all hostilities in the Middle East and includes conditions such as the release of frozen Iranian assets worth at least $12 billion, the lifting of sanctions on Iranian oil, and an end to the US naval blockade of Iran. Washington has yet to publicly respond to the proposal.
