Korea Disputes Trump's Alaska LNG Investment Claim
South Korea has disputed the Trump administration's claim that the country had agreed to invest $54 billion in an Alaska liquefied natural gas project. Industry Minister Kim Jung-kwan stated that what the Korean government agreed with the US was that the project would proceed only if it is commercially viable.
The US had announced that South Korea would be investing in the long-stalled venture, but Seoul expressed its regret to US Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick that the reported announcement went beyond what had been agreed upon. Minister Kim stated that the Korean government's agreement was contingent on the project being economically feasible, not a fixed investment of $54 billion.
The dispute highlights the ongoing challenges and uncertainties surrounding major infrastructure projects like the Alaska LNG project.
