Korea Halts Alaska LNG Investment Until Commercial Viability is Proven
South Korea's Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy Kim Jung-kwan announced that the country will not proceed with investment in the U.S. Alaska liquefied natural gas (LNG) project until commercial viability is secured.
This decision comes after President Donald Trump announced a $50 billion investment plan for the project, significantly reduced from the initial $67 billion discussed.
The government's cautious approach is rooted in the project's uncertain profitability and structural risk factors, including difficulties securing workers due to Alaska's harsh climate and delays in licensing and permitting.
