KRG Disputes Direct Gas Supply Decision by Crescent Petroleum and Dana Gas
The Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) has expressed disappointment over Crescent Petroleum and Dana Gas' decision to supply natural gas from the Khor Mor field directly to Iraq's Ministry of Electricity without its approval.
The companies, which are joint operators of the field, informed the KRG on August 4, 2026, that they had commenced supplying gas for power generation. The KRG received this notification at the same time as the public announcement.
The KRG has always been committed to strengthening energy security in both the Kurdistan Region and Iraq through significant investment in infrastructure and making it available to serve all interests in compliance with contractual frameworks.
However, Crescent Petroleum and Dana Gas' unilateral decision to supply gas without approval constitutes a breach of their contractual obligations and represents an unwarranted interference in institutional arrangements governing the relationship between the KRG and the Federal Government.
