The CEO of Suncor Energy Inc., Rich Kruger, says he's optimistic about the current mood surrounding the oil and gas industry in Canada. However, it's still too early to determine whether recent government commitments will help spur future growth.

Last month, Suncor signed a memorandum of understanding with the federal and Alberta governments outlining shared ambitions around carbon policy, market access, and regulatory conditions. The agreement included advancing the Pathways carbon capture and storage project and offsetting some of the carbon emissions from new infrastructure.

Kruger stated that it's 'still to be determined' how much the MOU could affect Suncor's plans for growth. He emphasized the need for 'definitive agreements' and expressed caution about making long-term commitments without considering capital allocation.
