Kyrgyzstan Fuel Prices Soar Amid Disrupted Russian Imports
A recent surge in fuel prices has affected Kyrgyzstan, particularly AI-95 petrol, which rose by over 24% in just one month. According to data from the National Statistics Office, AI-95 petrol's average price increased from 87.31 KGS per litre in June to 108.49 KGS by July 31st. Over the same period, AI-92 petrol and diesel fuel prices rose by 10.3% and 8.4%, respectively.
The increase is attributed to disruptions in imports of petroleum products from Russia due to attacks on its oil refineries. Kyrgyzstan relies heavily on Russian fuel imports, with around 95% of its annual consumption, approximately 2 million tonnes, coming from Russia.
To mitigate the shortage, Kyrgyzstan and Russia signed an agreement for the monthly supply of 100,000 tonnes of fuel and lubricants. However, the agreement's impact on prices remains uncertain.
