LA Gas Prices Surge Past $5.66 Amid Ongoing Middle East Tensions
The average price of a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline in Los Angeles County rose to $5.664 on Saturday, marking its fourth consecutive increase.
This new high is 1.8 cents more than one week ago and $1.14 more than one year ago, according to figures from the AAA and Oil Price Information Service.
The price hike is attributed to the joint U.S./Israel attack on Iran on February 28, which sent oil prices higher and drastically accelerated increases at the gas pump.
Kandace Redd, senior public affairs specialist for the Automobile Club of Southern California, stated that 'crude oil prices are once again approaching the $90 per barrel range amid continued uncertainty along the Strait of Hormuz and the conflict in the Middle East.'
