La Plata Project Chosen for US DOE's AI Initiative to Boost Copper Exploration
Copper futures prices have been volatile in recent days, but structural deficits remain a key theme for investors evaluating copper-related equities. The La Plata project, located in Colorado and owned by Metallic Minerals Corp., has been selected to participate in the U.S. Department of Energy's AI initiative led by the Colorado School of Mines.
The AGAPEX AI exploration program aims to develop next-generation artificial intelligence technologies for critical minerals exploration. The La Plata project was chosen as one of two initial test sites due to its high-quality geological database and complex alkalic polymetallic system.
Metallic Minerals will contribute its datasets and expertise while gaining access to advanced AI agent frameworks, models, and computing resources. The initiative integrates geological knowledge, physics-constrained AI, uncertainty analysis, and economic decision-making into a single workflow.
