Libya Turns to LNG as Alternative Fuel Source Amid Summer of Crises
The Libyan government is exploring alternatives to reduce electricity production costs and improve energy supply stability. Undersecretary of the Ministry of Industry and Minerals, Mustafa Al-Samou, met with representatives from the National Oil Corporation (NOC) and the General Electricity Company of Libya (GECOL).
The meeting aimed to assess the feasibility of using liquefied natural gas (LNG) instead of liquid fuel for power generation plants. This would not only reduce costs but also curb liquid fuel consumption, thereby improving plant operational efficiency.
Participants discussed the technical, economic, and logistical aspects of implementing this initiative, emphasizing the importance of coordination among relevant entities to ensure optimal use of national resources and stability of the electricity grid.
