Lithuania Secures 40% of Gas Demand with EQT Deal
Lithuania's energy needs have taken a significant step forward with a landmark agreement signed by Ignitis, the country's leading energy supplier. On September 23, 2026, Ignitis inked a 10-year deal with EQT Corporation, a major US natural gas producer.
The contract secures around 40% of Lithuania's household gas demand and represents the first long-term gas supply agreement between a Lithuanian company and an American firm. The deal is set to run from 2027 to 2036, with Ignitis agreeing to purchase 10 liquefied natural gas (LNG) cargoes annually.
Each LNG cargo will amount to approximately 1 TWh of natural gas, totaling around 10 TWh over the contract period. The pricing mechanism is tied to both the US Henry Hub and European Title Transfer Facility (TTF) indices, introducing a new layer of price stability into Ignitis' supply portfolio.
This dual-index mechanism aims to reduce dependence on European wholesale prices and shield household bills from sudden spikes in TTF prices. Lithuania's Ministry of Energy has hailed the agreement as a major step forward in securing the country's energy needs.
