Pakistan Kissan Ittehad Demands Rs5,000 Support Price for Wheat Amid Delayed Crop Policies

Pakistan Kissan Ittehad President Khalid Khokhar has called for a Rs5,000 per 40kg support price for wheat, warning that farmers may not sow wheat if crop policies are delayed.

The government is yet to announce its policy for the upcoming wheat season, which is set to begin soon. The Pakistan Kissan Ittehad leader said farmers are struggling to recover production costs due to low prices and high input costs, leading to a decline in DAP consumption from 2.39 million tonnes to 1.25m tonnes.

Khokhar emphasized that if the government provides fair prices for wheat based on international market rates, farmers will deliver record production. He also urged the government to retain sufficient sugar stocks until November and export the surplus to prevent losses to growers.
