LNG Canada Doubles Down on Kitimat Expansion
LNG Canada has made a final investment decision to double its export terminal's capacity in Kitimat, British Columbia.
The expansion will increase liquefied natural gas (LNG) export capacity from 14 million tonnes per year to 28 million tonnes, with two additional LNG processing trains and other upgrades at the site.
LNG Canada expects Phase 2 construction to support up to 4,000 jobs at the Kitimat facility during peak construction, while approximately 2,100 additional jobs are expected for the Coastal GasLink expansion and new compressor stations.
The project's connection to the Peace Region lies in the gas supply itself, with natural gas exported through LNG Canada coming from the Montney formation. The expansion could create additional demand for Montney gas production, potentially benefiting producers and service companies operating throughout the region.
