LNG Expansion Project Gives B.C. NDP Party Election Boost

A major liquefied natural gas (LNG) expansion project in northern British Columbia has given a boost to the province's NDP party, just before an election.

The $33-billion Phase 2 expansion of LNG Canada's terminal in Kitimat will create 4,000 new construction jobs and bring in $28 billion in revenue for the government.

British Columbia NDP leader David Eby praised the project, saying it will 'change lives for the better' and provide stable, reliable energy. Prime Minister Mark Carney welcomed the final investment decision on Tuesday, stating that all levels of government were working together to make the project happen.

Economist Stewart Prest said the announcement is a key proof point for Eby's party, as it shows they are supporting resource development and creating jobs. However, not everyone is pleased with the expansion - Green Leader Emily Lowan expressed disappointment, citing concerns about air pollution and health effects in local communities.
