LNG Terminal Decision Delayed Until After Election
The decision on whether to underwrite a new liquefied natural gas terminal has been delayed until after the election, according to ACT and New Zealand First.
The government had initially planned to sign a contract for the LNG terminal before the election, aiming for it to be operational by mid-2028 as a backup measure against dry-year risks.
However, the introduction of a levy to pay for the terminal has been put on hold.
Energy Minister Simeon Brown said that despite this setback, work on the tender process can continue.
