Loonie Surges to Two-Month High on Firm Oil Prices and Divergent Rate Expectations
The Canadian Dollar has strengthened to a two-month high against the US Dollar, thanks in part to firm oil prices and shifting expectations around central bank policy. The pair's movement is closely tied to crude oil, with higher energy revenues supporting demand for the loonie.
Crude oil has remained supported by ongoing supply concerns and global demand expectations, keeping West Texas Intermediate (WTI) prices relatively stable. This stability has contributed to the Canadian Dollar's outperformance against its US counterpart in recent sessions.
The divergence in monetary policy expectations between the Federal Reserve and the Bank of Canada has also played a role in the USD/CAD exchange rate. Markets are pricing in a slower pace of easing from the Bank of Canada, which is narrowing the yield advantage that the US Dollar previously enjoyed.
