Malawi and Kazakhstan Forge Diplomatic Ties Amid Trade Hopes
Malawi and Kazakhstan have established diplomatic relations, marking a significant step in their bilateral ties. The agreement was signed by Malawi's Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, George Thapatula Chaponda, and his Kazakh counterpart, Mukhtar Tleuberdi, on the sidelines of the 81st session of the UN General Assembly in New York.
The Joint Communiqué establishes the framework for cooperation between the two countries, including strengthening political dialogue and expanding practical cooperation. This includes direct contacts between their foreign ministries, companies, and educational institutions.
The two nations have identified several areas for potential collaboration, with trade emerging as a key focus area. Kazakhstan is considering supplying wheat to Malawi, while Malawi aims to export tea, coffee, and macadamia nuts to the Kazakh market.
