Mato Grosso Corn Storage Bottlenecks Pressure Brazil's Export Logistics

Brazil's corn storage bottlenecks have put pressure on the country's export logistics chain. According to Conab's August Logistics Bulletin, about 78.2% of Brazil's planted area for the second corn crop had already been harvested by the end of August.

The advanced harvest has exposed Mato Grosso's corn storage capacity issues, with large volumes of grain being stored outdoors in the state. The combination of strong supply and limited storage capacity has added pressure to Brazil's agricultural logistics chain.

Despite a decrease in freight rates, physical constraints remain in the supply chain. Conab's report highlights that when storage capacity fails to keep pace with production, part of the pressure shifts to freight markets, transshipment terminals, loading queues, and port scheduling.
