Middle East Tensions Fuel Record Q2 Profits for ExxonMobil and Chevron
Energy giants ExxonMobil and Chevron have reported significant increases in their second-quarter profits. The rise is attributed to higher oil prices and refining margins, driven by geopolitical tensions in the Middle East.
ExxonMobil's net earnings soared 105.1% year-over-year to $14.5 billion in April-June, from $7.1 billion in the same period last year. The company generated $23.6 billion in cash flow from operating activities and $17.2 billion in free cash flow during the quarter.
ExxonMobil CEO Darren Woods said, 'The second quarter was shaped by disruption, but defined by execution.' The company reported its highest upstream production in over two decades, excluding volumes affected by Middle East disruptions, as well as record production in the Permian Basin and diesel output.
