A flurry of airstrikes and ship attacks has escalated tensions in the Middle East. In Yemen, Houthi rebels claimed that Saudi-backed forces launched dozens of airstrikes overnight across four provinces, after Houthi attacks on Saudi oil facilities wounded dozens of people.

The Houthis also reported that an airstrike on a prison they run in northern Yemen killed 23 people, with four bodies recovered on Wednesday. The strikes come amid weeks of intensifying clashes between the Houthis and Saudi-backed government forces in the country.

In a separate development, Iranian state media said that Iranian forces struck several oil tankers and two U.S. ships in retaliation for U.S. strikes on Iranian vessels on Tuesday. However, the U.S. Central Command denied these claims, stating that all attempted attacks failed.
