Modi Hails Cabinet's Green Energy Corridor Approval, Wheat MSP Hike
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has hailed the Union Cabinet's approval of the Green Energy Corridor Phase-III (GEC-III) scheme and a hike in the minimum support price (MSP) of wheat. The GEC-III scheme, with an outlay of Rs 1.86 lakh crore, aims to set up an intra-state transmission system with battery storage to evacuate 135 GW of renewable energy.
The scheme will strengthen power grids across states and union territories, create more jobs in manufacturing, construction, and energy storage, and push towards a non-fossil capacity of 900 GW by 2035. Modi also announced that the MSP of wheat has been increased marginally by Rs 25 to Rs 2,610 per quintal for the 2027-28 rabi marketing year.
The government has approved an increase in the Minimum Support Price (MSP) for rabi crops for the 2027-28 marketing season. This will ensure that millions of farmers receive a remunerative price for their produce, Modi said.
