Moldova's Gas Prices Soar 29% Amid European Market Volatility

The Moldovan regulator has raised gas tariffs by 29% effective October 1, marking the second consecutive price increase. The National Energy Regulatory Agency (ANRE) approved new regulated prices for natural gas supply to consumers today. The cost of gas for the population will now be 24,202 lei ($1,368) per thousand cubic meters, up from 18,798 lei ($1,063). This price hike comes on top of a previous increase in September by 41%, and another upcoming 29% rise in October.

The regulator attributed the price revision to the increased cost of natural gas purchases for the period from October to December 2026, which has risen to 17,050 lei per 1,000 m3 compared to 12,150 lei per 1,000 m3 included in the current tariffs. ANRE noted that the increase reflects current trends in European natural gas markets, where prices have surged due to low reserves and competition for available volumes of liquefied natural gas (LNG).

The crisis in Iran has further exacerbated the situation, with gas supplies from Europe trading at $883 per month on the Dutch TTF hub, more than double the price since the start of the conflict.
