Moldova's Wheat Flour Exports Suffer Due to Ukrainian Competition

Moldova's wheat flour exports are facing challenges due to low prices and stiff competition from Ukraine. According to data, between January and August 2026, Moldova exported just over 16.4 thousand tonnes of wheat flour, which is a 4% decrease compared to the same period in 2025.

The majority of Moldova's wheat flour exports go to Romania (62%) and Israel (38%), accounting for over 99% of total exports. The average export price was around 5.30 lei/kg, similar to last year's figure but higher than 2024's average price.

However, the export price fell by approximately 21% in the first five months of this year and reached a record low in August. Market operators attribute the decline to large volumes of Ukrainian flour being supplied to Moldova and other Black Sea countries.
