Morocco Keeps Import Tariff on Soft Wheat Amid Domestic Harvest Delays

Morocco has extended its customs duty on soft wheat imports by another month. The 170% tariff, initially set to end on July 31, will now remain in place until August 31.

The decision was made due to slow collection of locally produced wheat. As of the end of July, only about 500,000 tonnes had been collected, falling short of the target of at least 1.5 million tonnes.

The government introduced the tariff in June to encourage buyers to purchase local wheat before turning to imports. However, several factors have slowed collections, including labour shortages and older farm equipment.
