Murmansk Port Repurposes Fertiliser Gear for Grain Exports Amid Black Sea Blockade

Russia's Arctic port of Murmansk is repurposing its fertiliser gear to move grain around the Black Sea blockade. The equipment, typically used for loading fertiliser, will be used to ship grain from southern Russia for export as early as next month.

Murmansk, located 2,700 kilometers from Novorossiysk, Russia's main grain export gateway, is using a direct-transfer system that moves cargo from railcars straight into ships' holds. This method is normally used for potash exports.

The port has also been adapting its conveyor systems to handle larger grain volumes. Russian companies have been repurposing fertiliser, coal, and other cargo terminals at Baltic and Arctic ports to handle grain exports.
