Natural Gas Takes Center Stage in Global Energy Transition
Natural gas is playing an increasingly important role in supporting the global energy transition. Mario Azar, Chairman and CEO of Black & Veatch, notes that natural gas remains indispensable to a secure global energy future due to its scalability and reliability.
Azar emphasizes that while renewables will play a growing role in the energy mix, they require energy storage to deliver base-load reliability at scale. Natural gas power is highly flexible and dispatchable to service ancillary market needs, filling the role of long-duration energy that no other technology can currently fill.
Buyers are navigating geopolitical supply chain shocks by prioritizing nearshore and floating LNG (FLNG) solutions over traditional onshore projects. FLNG offers advantages such as being fast to market, capital-efficient, and able to open up new supply routes from previously stranded gas reserves.
