NDP MLA Al-Guneid Won't Seek Re-election Amid Alberta Politics Turmoil

Al-Guneid's background in the energy industry is impressive, having worked at TotalEnergies as a corporate communications advisor and government relations manager at Energy Futures Lab. She was named 'Young Women in Energy' award winner in 2020 and featured on Avenue Magazine Calgary's 'Top 40 Under 40' list two years later.

This decision comes amidst ongoing turmoil in Alberta politics, with the province set to vote on its place in Confederation and several issues that could fundamentally change its relationship with Ottawa. The governing UCP government has been promoting its economic track record, while Premier Danielle Smith recently announced the waiver of the provincial fuel tax for consumers buying gas from October 1 until the end of the year.
