Nepal Floods Devastate Economy, Leave Citizens Reeling

Floods and landslides caused by continuous rain have severely disrupted daily life in Nepal. The country's economic system and supply chain have been significantly impacted, with prices of essential items skyrocketing.

The Kathmandu Valley has been directly affected, with major highways connecting it to other parts of the country blocked by floods and landslides. As a result, prices of vegetables, fruits, and daily food items in the market have increased by 100-250 percent.

Vegetable prices have surged, according to government data, with green chilies increasing by 271.94 percent from Rs 47.50 per kg to Rs 176.67. Tomatoes have also become expensive, with local small tomatoes reaching Rs 65 per kg and Nepali large tomatoes increasing by 43.47 percent.

The prices of other daily green vegetables have more than doubled in a month, while food grain prices have also increased significantly. Wholesale traders are arbitrarily increasing prices on existing stock, citing road blockages and reduced supply.
