NH Heating Oil Prices Soar 63% as Iran Conflict Drives Global Oil Markets

As winter approaches, residents of New Hampshire may face higher heating oil prices due to the Iran War. According to the National Energy Assistance Directors Association's winter heating report for 2026, released last week, the average price for a gallon of residential heating oil in southwestern New Hampshire is $5.70, up about 63 percent over this time last year.

To fill a 200-gallon tank, that's approximately $1,140. Doing so three times in a winter would result in a bill of around $3,420, compared to the previous year's bill of about $2,100.

The Iran War has significantly impacted global oil markets, with crude oil prices rising toward $100 per barrel as concerns grew about disruptions to oil supplies and shipping through the Strait of Hormuz. Shipping through this strait remains limited, resulting in record-high diesel costs.
