Nigeria LNG Sees Methane Reduction as Key Business Opportunity
Nigeria LNG Limited (NLNG) is urging global gas producers to prioritize methane reduction as it can increase gas revenues, improve plant efficiency, and reduce emissions. According to NLNG's Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Adeleye Falade, methane abatement should not be seen as an environmental obligation but as a business opportunity.
Falade cited NLNG's new boil-off gas compressor and start-up gas recovery project as examples of investments that can deliver both environmental and commercial benefits. These projects are expected to reduce methane emissions by 10-15% each and have positive projected net present values, indicating they will pay for themselves.
NLNG's approach to methane reduction is built around measuring methane losses, identifying areas for intervention, and investing in technologies that prevent gas from being lost. The company emphasizes the importance of credible measurement, which enables it to identify losses, direct investment to appropriate interventions, and assess whether those measures are delivering the desired results.
