Nigeria Troops Crack Down on Illegal Oil Refinery
Troops from the Presidential Taskforce on Hydrocarbon Crimes have discovered an illegal oil production site in Bonny Island, Rivers State, Nigeria.
The discovery was made after an intensive surveillance operation in the area aimed at ridding the environment of criminal elements.
The site is estimated to process about 40,000 litres of crude oil daily and is considered one of the agency's major breakthroughs since its inception.
Commanding Officer Stanley Umeh described the discovery as a significant achievement for the agency, while head of the investigation team CSP Umar Sani called for stricter penalties to deter offenders.
