NIPCO Group Embarks on $3 Billion FLNG Project in Nigeria
The NIPCO Group has announced plans to develop a Floating Liquefied Natural Gas (FLNG) project in Nigeria, marking a major breakthrough for the country's gas economy. The estimated investment in the proposed project exceeds $3 billion and aims to produce approximately 3 million metric tonnes per annum. According to Nagendra Verma, Managing Director of NIPCO Gas Ltd, the final location will be determined after ongoing feasibility studies.
The proposed FLNG facility will serve both the international LNG market and growing domestic LNG demand in Nigeria. The project's success depends on various factors, including policy stability, regulatory certainty, and factual reporting, as emphasized by stakeholders in the oil and gas sector.
Nigeria remains a significant player in the global LNG market, with 3.4% of global LNG exports according to the World LNG Report 2026 of the International Gas Union.
