NJ Gas Prices Surpass National Average as Crude Oil Costs Rise

New Jersey's gas prices have been on the rise, with the statewide average increasing to $4.43 per gallon as of September 16th, according to AAA Fuel Prices. This is about 6 cents higher than the national average of $4.37.

The increase in gas prices can be attributed to rising crude oil prices and volatility in the Strait of Hormuz, according to AAA. In New Jersey, gas prices have risen from $3.97 a month ago to their current level. A year ago, regular gas averaged just $3.14 per gallon in the state.

Prices vary across Central Jersey, with Somerset County averaging $4.48 per gallon, Union and Hunterdon counties at $4.44, and Middlesex County at $4.43. Nationally, 39 states have average gas prices exceeding $4 per gallon, including Washington D.C., according to AAA's figures.
