NLNG Dedicates Cooking Gas Production to Nigerian Market
Nigeria LNG Limited (NLNG) has made a significant commitment to the Nigerian market by dedicating 100% of its cooking gas production to domestic use, abandoning exports in an effort to improve access to cleaner cooking fuel.
At its recent media engagement, 'Presentation of NLNG Facts and Figures 2026', Managing Director Adeleye Falade announced that the company supplied a record 500,000 tonnes of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) to the Nigerian market last year. This represents the highest annual domestic LPG supply since the company began local distribution in 2005 with only about 70,000 tonnes.
The CEO emphasized that despite increasing its volumes more than sevenfold, NLNG now supplies about one-third of Nigeria's cooking gas demand. He cited a newspaper article highlighting the health implications faced by thousands of women who cook with charcoal and other biomass, which led to the company's decision to prioritize domestic supply.
Falade also highlighted the company's significant contribution to Nigeria's economy, having generated more than $150bn in revenue since operations began 37 years ago. NLNG has paid over $47.2bn in dividends to shareholders and remitted more than $10bn in taxes to the Federal Government.
