North America's Natural Gas Pipeline Shortage Looms as Demand Grows
North America's growing demand for natural gas is being threatened by pipeline delays. According to Amy Andryszak, CEO of the Interstate Natural Gas Association of America (INGAA), even under a low-carbon scenario, North America could require 54 Bcf/d of incremental natural gas transmission capacity and roughly 25,000 miles of new pipelines by 2050 to match demand.
The current pipeline lead times are hitting 42 months. Andryszak highlighted the need for increased pipeline infrastructure to meet growing demand. INGAA's estimates suggest that without sufficient pipelines, North America will face significant natural gas supply challenges in the coming years.
