North Sea Supply Risks Put UK Oil Stocks in the Spotlight
The North Sea is back in focus for investors as potential strikes at Apache’s Forties and Beryl fields highlight supply risks. This renewed attention is reshaping how investors view integrated producers and pure explorers, especially as tight barrels can impact consumers and pricing power. The article examines three UK-listed oil and gas stocks most exposed to these supply risks: EnQuest, Angus Energy, and Ithaca Energy.
EnQuest (LSE:ENQ) is a London-based oil and gas producer primarily focused on North Sea fields, with additional operations in Malaysia. Generating about US$1.1 billion in revenue, roughly US$921 million comes from the North Sea. With a market cap of £499 million, EnQuest’s operations, particularly Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR) initiatives at the Kraken field, could add 30 to 60 million barrels of oil, significantly impacting its cash generation.
Angus Energy (AIM:ANGS) is a smaller, onshore oil and gas producer with a market cap of £15 million. It generates about £16.2 million in revenue, with most coming from natural gas. The company’s pure UK exposure and tight local market positioning make it sensitive to North Sea outages, though it is currently loss-making and highly geared.
Ithaca Energy (LSE:ITH) is a pure-play North Sea oil and gas producer with a market cap of £4.5 billion and US$3.2 billion in revenue. As a direct upstream play, Ithaca Energy is highly exposed to near-term supply threats, though global shifts toward decarbonization and net-zero targets could reduce demand for hydrocarbons in the long term.
