NSE Sees Triple-Digit Turnover Growth in ETFs, REITs Amid Gold Price Surge
The National Stock Exchange (NSE) saw significant turnover growth in exchange-traded funds (ETFs), real estate investment trusts (REITs), and infrastructure investment trusts (InvITs) in August 2026, while mainboard equity turnover moderated.
According to NSE data, ETF turnover more than doubled year-over-year in August, rising from Rs 1,647 crore in August 2025 to Rs 3,498 crore. REITs saw the sharpest monthly increase, with average daily turnover (ADT) surging 224.5% month-on-month to Rs 212.7 crore.
The growth in REIT and InvIT trading activity is attributed to the increasing number of mutual fund products offering investors exposure to these assets, as well as regulatory changes making them more accessible to mutual funds. The rise in ETF turnover can be linked to increased demand for gold ETFs due to a sharp rally in gold prices.
Mainboard equity turnover declined 1.1% month-on-month to Rs 115,536 crore, despite remaining 26.4% higher year-over-year. Higher US Treasury yields and volatility in crude oil prices weighed on investor sentiment, while the primary market offered investors a growing number of new issues to consider.
