Nutrien indefinitely shuts Trinidad nitrogen operations due to gas issues

Nutrien Ltd. has announced an indefinite shutdown of its nitrogen operations in Trinidad at the Point Lisas Facility. The decision stems from ongoing natural gas supply constraints and the uncertainty they create. The company had previously implemented a controlled shutdown on Oct. 23, 2025, citing port access restrictions and an unreliable natural gas supply.

The indefinite closure comes despite earlier measures to manage the situation. Nutrien asserts that the move will not affect its overall nitrogen sales volume forecast, as it had already accounted for no production from the Trinidad operations.

Nutrien maintains that it remains well-positioned to meet customer demand for nitrogen and plans to grow volumes from its North American operations. The company produces nitrogen for use in fertilizers, animal feed, and industrial products.
